Introduction and Personal Statement

I thrive in environments that challenge me to think critically, communicate effectively, and continuously grow both academically and personally. As a Public Relations major with a minor in Law at Thompson Rivers University, I have developed a strong foundation in communication, leadership, and strategic thinking. These skills have not only shaped my academic journey but have also solidified my aspiration to become a lawyer—one who advocates for others, particularly children, and makes a meaningful impact in their lives.

My experiences at TRU have reinforced the importance of Connection, Engagement, Exploration, and Local-to-Global learning in my development. Through Connection, I have learned the value of teamwork and collaboration by participating in TRU’s intramural volleyball and being on the management team for the Rail Riot a ski and snowboard event held on campus. These experiences taught me how to work effectively with others, communicate under pressure, and foster a sense of community, skills that are essential in the legal profession. Engagement has driven my commitment to lifelong learning, motivating me to pursue law school as the next step in my journey. My minor in law has deepened my understanding of legal systems and reinforced my passion for justice, particularly in advocating for children’s rights.

Beyond academics, I have gained valuable experience working with children, which has strengthened my desire to specialize in family or child advocacy law. The ability to connect with young individuals, understand their challenges, and support their needs has been incredibly fulfilling, reinforcing my drive to pursue a career where I can make a tangible difference.

TRU’s emphasis on Exploration and Local-to-Global perspectives has expanded my understanding of how law intersects with diverse communities and global issues. Engaging in discussions about legal frameworks, ethics, and human rights has inspired me to think beyond the classroom and envision how I can contribute to meaningful change on a broader scale.

With a strong foundation in communication, critical thinking, and advocacy, I am eager to take the next step toward a career in law. My experiences at TRU have given me the tools to approach legal challenges with confidence and compassion, and I am excited to apply these skills in a field where I can create lasting change.
